Senior Developer

This is working for Software Generation
Here I have been working on assisting the development team of 2 with work from numerous clients. This also involved supporting internal applications. Some of this work was access but most recently I have been re-writing one of the internal systems in vb.net.
23rd September 2002 – 19th September 2003
This was working for Reach Telecom
My main project was the re-writing of a Sales Ledger system for the business. This project involved managing 2 other members of staff and liaising with the business to identify core business functions and be involved in the whole project life cycle from the database design and stored procedure writing to coordinating testing and installation. This system had a SQL server 2000 database and had a VB6 front end with VB6 COM+ components. I took responsibility for the BACS/Direct Debit part of the application that DD sweeps for over £1m a month. While I was there I was also sent on internal management courses and I was once put in temporary charge of the development team when my manager was out of the office.

5th March 2001 – 20th September 2002
This was working for National Express LTD
The main projects I worked on were 1) I project led the moving of a national call centre's ticket sales application database from Btrieve to SQL server 2000. This involved i) Designing the database and writing all the stored procedures ii) writing the VB6 code to interface with the stored procedures and iii) Leading the project involving 2 other members of staff. 2) A Coldfusion intranet application that interfaces to an Ingres database to keep track of whether coaches are running on time. Specifically to write arrival and departure screens (similar to one's seen at train stations) for use at all coach stations in the UK .
This was working for a company called CERAM Research CERAM in a small in-house IT team.
My main duties are:-
1) Database Administration/database
maintenance: - Microsoft Access 97 and SQL Server 6.5
2) Application Development:
- using Access 97, applications interfacing, Crystal Report writing, systems
documentation and systems
analysis/specification/creation.
3) Support: - including end user
support for the whole of the Office 97 suite, some network support (NT
server manager/user manager, proxy server), application
support (mainly on the contacts/sales
system) and some end-user training. I have also been heavily involved in
the testing/installation of the new contacts/sales
system where I have strived to input
lots of new ideas.
I have also written a small
Active Server Page application to search for people’s skills.
I worked at a company called Anglo Europe Computer Systems LTDAnglo Europe.
Here I was continuing to develop and enhance their existing Access product which is a contacts/membership application.
This was a six month paid placement period to gain experience in the use of Visual Basic 5, Microsoft Access 1995 and Microsoft Access 1997 development. I was then taken on permanently. I developed 2 standalone systems using Access 97 and a network access 97 application. The most important being the network access 97 application I worked on which was a database to track samples and enter the results of tests carried out on those samples and then print out test reports. I also co-wrote a VB5 SQL server 6.5 application for a major bank. Enabling me to get hands on experience with Microsoft SQL Server 6.5.
This was a period of voluntary work to assist
in the bidding for funds e.g. National Lottery, Charitable Trusts. However,
I became more of a general assistant helping to set out materials to meetings,
photocopying attending meetings and other day to day functions
I undertook the first part of this qualification.
This covered Management Information, Managing Individuals at Work, Introduction
to Marketing and Quantitative Management.
MBM Mosspak LTD.
This involved the checking of a product through
its stages of production. This was necessary to adhere to strict guidelines
set down by the buyers of the product.

This has included modules covering Software Engineering, Communications, Computer Systems Architecture and Data Communications and Computer Networks, Principles of Systems Analysis and Design, Fundamentals of Business, Strategic Planning in IT, Database Management Systems and Human Computer Interaction. Software Engineering focused on a project with an Access 2 back end and a Visual Basic 3 front end and how to write software documentation. Communications focused on how to do presentations and how to write web pages including HTML and JavaScript. Computer Systems Architecture and Data Communications and Computer Networks was included to gain an understanding of how a computer works and an introduction into how Computer Networks work. Principles of Systems Analysis and Design focused on the software life cycle and the basics of using a SSADM case tool. Database Management Systems focused on database design theory especially relational database design. Most importantly was SQL work done on Oracle.
